Virtual myCONVOCONNECT
A CONVOCONNECT Virtual Program is run much like an in-person program, with two key differences that impact the format. Much like our In-person sessions, our facilitation borrows much from what is known variously as Human Interaction Laboratories, HI Labs, or T-Groups, each started, perfected, and continued to this day by the NTL Institute and others. Glenn Allen is a member of the NTL Institute. In these sessions, while there is some “content input” (i.e. teaching/modeling) by the facilitator, most of the learning takes place in the process of in-the-moment conversations at the full-group level, small-group level, and in one-on-one practice sessions.
When run virtually, a “Human Interaction Laboratory” or T Group (Training Group) is an experiential learning environment designed to enhance self-awareness and interpersonal skills. This laboratory typically involves a group of participants who come together with a primary focus on the here-and-now interactions within the group. Here’s a description of how it is run in a virtual setting:
Structure and Setup
Platform Selection: The program is hosted on a virtual meeting platform like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet, offering functionalities such as breakout rooms, chat, and video conferencing.
Group Composition: Participants are often diverse, coming from different backgrounds to ensure a rich interaction dynamic. The group size can vary but is usually kept small to medium (about 8-15 participants) to allow meaningful engagement.
Time Frame: The program can last from a few hours to several days, with scheduled sessions and breaks.
Objectives
Self-Awareness: Participants explore their own behaviors, attitudes, and feelings in real-time interactions.
Interpersonal Learning: Through feedback and reflection, individuals learn about how they are perceived by others and how they relate to others.
Group Dynamics: Observing and understanding the evolving dynamics within the group provides insights into team behavior and leadership.
